About me

On 13th of April 1977 the city of Espoo in Finland had a new inhabitant, me.  Few things have happened since and here is a summary of some of the activities;

First name: Ville
Middle name: Samuli
Surname: Suomi
Age: 31
Gender: Male
Occupation: Subproject manager
Education: Master of Electrical Engineering, University of Warwick, England.
Location: Oulu, Finland

Year Event
1984 Started comprehensive school in the village of Veikkola, 35 km from Helsinki, Finland.
1993 Started high school in Leppävaara in the city of Espoo, Finland.
1996 Graduated from the Leppävaara high school.
1996 Worked in a hotel and attended a language course in England as part of a program organized by Allianssi.  A very educative experience in many ways; my first stint abroad etc.
1997 Completed a 12-month military service.  First three months were spent in Helsinki in an artillery regiment and the rest in infantry in a garrison in Säkylä.  Went to reserves with the rank of a lance corporal.  Finished a Rapid Deployment Force training that proved to be useful in the near future...
1998 Worked with cables in a subsidiary company of Ericsson in Espoo, Finland.  The company does not exist anymore with its original name.
1998 Worked for another hotel in England for some time after which I commenced my engineering studies at the University of Warwick in England.  Great place :)
1999 Backpacked and traveled around Scotland for a month with a friend.  Marvelous sceneries and some great outdoor life!
1999 Served as a peacekeeper in Kosovo after my first year of university studies.  The most eye-opening and mind-broadening single experience I have had.  It surely is worthwhile to step outside the Western welfare societies for a second and see take-it-for-granted issues from a different perspective.
2000 Worked as a lorry driver for the Finnish mail.  Hectic and demanding work, the best memories are from the occasional lunchtimes spent next to the beaches of Hanko, a beautiful and the southernmost coastal town of Finland.
2000 Second year of studies at the University of Warwick.  Worked shortly part-time for General Electric at the University Science Park.
2001 Worked as an assistant engineer at Technor in Norway.  Traineeship in the middle of the studies was encouraged by the University for the engineering students especially.  Good idea I think, and a dangerous one; I met my wife-to-be :)
2002 Worked as an assistant engineer for Helsingin Energia in Finland.  Great place to work for and a professionally mind-broadening experience.
2002 Spent an exchange year in France at Ecole des Mines de Nantes as another part of my studies.  I did a European version of my degree which meant that I had to spend either a year abroad in an institution or to work abroad for a summer.  Brilliant scheme :)
2003 Continued my work as an assistant engineer at Helsinki Energy and agreed to make my final year project for them.  An educating experience trying to combine the needs of a company and a university for one project.
2003 Returned to England for my fourth and final year of studies at the University.
2004 Graduation from the University in the summer.  Move to Oulu, Finland.  Employed by Nokia.
2005 Moved to our own house in Oulu.
2006 Got married and became a father.
2007 Employer changed from Nokia to Nokia Siemens Networks in April.
2008 Here and now, alive and kicking :)
